kalkan

KALKAN is nestled at the foot of the Taurus mountains , what was once a small fishing town is now a peaceful Mediterranean resort on the beautiful Turquoise coast of Turkey .

The heart of Kalkan is the old town, a collection of winding cobbled streets which all eventually lead to the beautiful harbour. The pace is relaxed and unhurried; so it's a delight to stroll by old whitewashed houses, with their shuttered windows, many awash with colour from the flowering plants and trailing bougainvillea.

Coaches, dolmus and taxi's are all readily available from the local bus station.
Kalkan is situated just off the main Fethiye to Kas road, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful stretches of road along this coastline, so it is well worth spending a morning exploring the outskirts of town.

Throughout the day Kalkan is a sleepy relaxed place, as many visitors choose to relax in the sun, swim, take one of the many boat trips or visit one of the many nearby historical sites. As the sun sets Kalkan comes alive and visitors join locals for their regular stroll around the town before the evening meal.

There is a seemingly endless choice of restaurants, well over a hundred, many of which are tucked away down the narrow streets or on roof terraces affording magical views of the town and moonlit bay. The food is excellent and reasonably priced from the upmarket fish restaurants on the harbour, to the more traditional where you can eat whilst sitting on kilims with live traditional Turkish music playing.

The people happily welcome you and you will be surprised by the universal friendliness of the town. Kalkan's startling beauty is well matched by the genuine warmth of it's people. Don't be surprised if you visit a second time and people remember your name.
